The top flight of the FIA World Endurance Championship is in the middle of a golden era. Between shifting Balance of Performance (BoP) tables, heavyweight manufacturers re-evaluating their programs, and legendary brands preparing long-awaited returns, the Hypercar grid is moving fast.
What’s Next: The Upcoming WEC Round
The world endurance championship is heading into the American leg of the calendar for Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.
Following a grueling 6 Hours of São Paulo at Interlagos where tyre degradation and track temperature reshuffled the order, teams are preparing for the high-speed flowing sweeps of COTA’s Sector 1 and the technical slow-speed stadium section. Heat management, aerodynamic efficiency, and execution on pit lane will be the defining factors under the Texas sun.
Ferrari: Playing the Strategy Game

The Prancing Horse continues to be a central force in the Hypercar class with its 499P. However, recent rounds have forced the factory Ferrari – AF Corse squad into damage-limitation mode due to unfavorable Balance of Performance allocations and raw race-pace deficits relative to rivals.
FERRARI 499P 2026 CAMPAIGN SUMMARY
+——————–+—————————————————+
| Recent Standout | P2 at São Paulo (#51 – Pier Guidi/Calado/Gio) |
| Core Strength | Flawless pit execution & aggressive tyre strategy |
| Primary Struggle | Single-lap pace under heavy BoP weight penalties |

Despite a tougher outing at Le Mans that saw the #51 car manage a hard-fought 5th place finish, the team bounced back sharply in Brazil. Starting 11th on the grid, the #51 crew carved through the field via precise strategy and tyre preservation to grab a remarkable runner-up spot. Heading into COTA, Ferrari’s focus remains locked on maximizing points in the World Manufacturers’ Championship while relying on execution to out-think faster machinery.
Genesis: The New Powerhouse Has Arrived
Genesis Hyundai’s luxury performance arm is officially out of the conceptual phase and actively fighting on the WEC grid. Operating under the Genesis Magma Racing banner with technical partnership from ORECA, the GMR-001 LMDh program made its highly anticipated competitive debut earlier this season.
- The Machinery: An ORECA-based chassis powered by a bespoke 3.2-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with the spec rear-axle hybrid unit.
- Star Drivers: Featuring heavy-hitting endurance veterans like André Lotterer, Pipo Derani, and Mathieu Jaminet, the program skipped the soft learning curve.
- Current Form: After netting a impressive top-10 finish in only its second race at Spa, Genesis is using the back half of the season to refine system integration and race-pace setup ahead of an expanded global campaign.

McLaren officially unveiled the MCL-HY testing model in a striking 1960s Can-Am inspired livery. The British brand is conducting an intensive, multi-circuit track-testing program throughout the remainder of this year with development driver Mikkel Jensen at the helm.

McLaren will not enter mid-season races as an unhomologated entry. Instead, they will officially join the Hypercar grid at the start of the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship season. This gives WEC a lineup featuring Ferrari, Porsche, Toyota, Cadillac, Peugeot, Alpine, Genesis, and McLaren battling for overall victory.
