Ferrari 499P Evo: Inside Maranello’s Development Programme for 2027
**Ferrari’s updated Le Mans Hypercar has begun its on-track development programme as the manufacturer prepares for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship.**
Ferrari has begun testing an updated version of its 499P Le Mans Hypercar ahead of the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. The development programme started at Italy’s Autodromo Nazionale Monza in July 2026, where Ferrari evaluated revised aerodynamic and technical configurations while continuing preparations with its current championship car.
The updated prototype, commonly referred to as the Ferrari 499P Evo, represents an evolution of the car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Ferrari also secured the 2025 WEC manufacturers’ and drivers’ world championships with the 499P.
Rather than introduce a substantially revised car for the 2026 season, Ferrari elected to retain its existing technical package while preparing a more comprehensive development programme for 2027.
The Monza test
Ferrari completed two days of testing at Monza at the end of July. The programme involved evaluating different technical and aerodynamic solutions before the final specification is submitted for homologation.
Factory drivers Antonio Fuoco, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Miguel Molina participated in the development programme. The current-specification 499P also ran at Monza, allowing Ferrari to continue preparing for the 2026 championship and compare the existing car with the updated prototype.
Antonello Coletta, Ferrari’s global head of endurance and Corse Clienti, said the testing programme had enabled the team to assess the functionality of the new developments and identify the most promising solutions for the next season.
Ferrari stated that the programme would continue progressively, leaving different design options open until the final homologation process.

Aerodynamic revisions
Photographs released during the Monza test revealed several visible changes to the updated 499P.
The front bodywork has been revised, while the side sections feature changes to their openings and vents. The rear wing also adopts a different configuration, including changes to its profile and mounting arrangement. The diffuser and surrounding rear bodywork have likewise been revised.
These visible alterations form part of Ferrari’s evaluation of alternative aerodynamic configurations. The precise specification of the final 2027 car has not yet been established publicly, and the test prototype should not be treated as a definitive representation of the homologated version.
Ferrari’s development programme is intended to assess different solutions on track before selecting the configuration for the next season.
Development allowances and the 2027 programme
Ferrari’s 2027 development strategy involves the use of the performance-related evolution allowances permitted under the Hypercar regulations.
In June, Ferrari endurance technical director Ferdinando Cannizzo explained that the manufacturer was considering using three or four of its remaining development allowances on the 499P ahead of 2027. The intention is to introduce a coordinated package of improvements rather than concentrate exclusively on an isolated component.
Ferrari’s last major update to the 499P was introduced for the 2024 6 Hours of São Paulo, with changes focused on brake cooling and aerodynamic balance. The manufacturer subsequently retained the existing package for 2026.
The updated prototype therefore provides an opportunity to evaluate a wider range of changes before the next homologation stage.

Testing beyond Monza
Ferrari continued its development work at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin in September. The programme included running the updated prototype alongside the current 499P, allowing engineers to compare the two configurations.
The Austin test formed part of Ferrari’s preparation for the 2027 season, rather than a confirmed introduction of the updated package into the 2026 championship.
Further testing is part of the development process leading to the final homologation. The precise specification, performance gains and complete list of changes to the 2027 car have not been publicly confirmed.
The 2026 championship campaign
The development of the updated 499P is taking place alongside Ferrari’s defence of its WEC titles.
The 2026 season has presented a more challenging competitive environment than the previous campaign. Toyota has moved into the lead of the manufacturers’ standings, with BMW second and Ferrari third in the official championship classification published ahead of the Barcelona round.
At the Circuit of the Americas, Ferrari secured victory in the Lone Star Le Mans race with its No. 50 entry, driven by Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen. The result followed the retirement of the leading Toyota late in the race.
At Fuji, Toyota won its home event, while Ferrari’s three entries encountered a difficult weekend. The No. 83 Ferrari finished 12th, the No. 50 retired, and the No. 51 did not finish among the leading classified cars.
The results demonstrated the difference between Ferrari’s performance in individual races and its position across the full championship.
The next round is the 6 Hours of Barcelona, scheduled for October 18, followed by the 6 Hours of Monza from November 6–8. These events conclude the revised 2026 calendar after the Qatar and Bahrain rounds were cancelled.

Preparing for the next season
Ferrari’s development programme is continuing while the team competes with the existing 499P. The manufacturer has used testing to evaluate aerodynamic revisions and alternative technical configurations before finalising the updated car.
The 499P Evo is scheduled to compete in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship, subject to the final homologation process.
For Ferrari, the programme follows a period in which the 499P established itself as one of the leading cars in endurance racing, winning three consecutive editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and securing the 2025 world titles.
The next stage is the development and validation of the revised package ahead of its intended competition debut in 2027.
