Loro Piana Presents Studies: Chapter I – The Art of the Plaid

For Milan Design Week 2026, Loro Piana introduces Studies, an evolving research project that treats interior design as a series of focused investigations. The inaugural chapter, “On the Plaid,” celebrates an icon of the Maison’s lifestyle repertoire since the 1980s, serving as a canvas for technical experimentation and material mastery.

Presented at the Cortile della Seta, the installation is designed as a guided passage through twenty-four unique plaids. Each piece serves as an individual case study, mapping specific intersections of rare fibers and intricate textile constructions. Together, they form a “creative index” that showcases the precision and artisanal depth synonymous with Loro Piana.

A Dialogue of Fiber and Form

The exhibition highlights the journey from raw material to finished masterpiece. Visitors can explore the transformative processes behind the Maison’s most legendary yarns:

  • The “Big Three”: Vicuña, Baby Cashmere, and The Gift of Kings® wool.
  • Innovative Textures: Featuring Cashfur, Wish® wool, and Pecora Nera®.
  • Artisanal Techniques: A wide-ranging spectrum including handloom weaving, needle punching, screen printing, and intricate patchwork.

Couture for the Home

Each plaid is crafted exclusively upon request, treated with the same reverence as a couture garment. This collection bridges the gap between heritage and innovation, reinforcing a culture of sublime materials that are built to endure.
