The Engineering of the Vineyard

True to form, Ferruccio didn’t just stick to the traditional regional manual. While he planted local varietals like Sangiovese, he was an early pioneer in introducing bold, unconventional French grapes like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to the Umbrian clay soil. The First Vintage: Released in 1975, his debut wine was the legendary Sangue di Miura (“Blood of the Bull”), a direct nod to his most iconic supercar breakthrough.

The Climate Advantage: The estate benefits from the specific microclimate of Lake Trasimeno. Thermal lake winds moderate the hot Italian summers, keeping the vineyard cool enough to preserve a crisp, structured acidity in the fruit.

The Modern Shift: Patrizia’s Era

Following Ferruccio’s death in 1993, the company didn’t go to the corporate buyers who purchased the automotive branch. Instead, it stayed strictly in the family. His daughter, Patrizia Lamborghini, took the reins in the mid-1990s and completely overhauled the business, shifting it from a founder’s passion project into a world-class boutique winery.

She pulled a classic Lamborghini move: she hired the absolute best technical mind available. She brought in Riccardo Cotarella, one of Italy’s most iconic and meticulous enologists. Together, they restructured the property, replanted aging blocks, and focused heavily on high-end, structured blends.

The Current Lineup

Today, the estate manages roughly 32 hectares of active vines, producing a highly curated portfolio that merges technical Italian winemaking with striking, industrial-influenced packaging:

Campoleone (Umbria Rosso IGT): The undisputed flagship. A muscular, complex blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, aged for 12 months in French oak barriques. It routinely pulls top marks from international critics for its deep structure, tobacco, and dark fruit notes. Torami: A robust red blend featuring Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, known for high planting density and tight, well-defined tannins. Grechetto: A tribute to the region’s white wine heritage. It is crisp, floral, and deeply mineral-forward. Vino Spumante / Prosecco: A sought-after lineup of sparkling wines produced using the Martinotti-Charmat method, cased in eye-catching, high-gloss metallic bottles that mirror the sleek paint finishes of modern supercars.

The Separation of Businesses: While Automobili Lamborghini cars are owned by the Volkswagen Group (via Audi), the winery remains completely independent and family-owned. It’s a pure expression of Ferruccio’s original vision: uncompromising technical execution, grounded in regional Italian soil.
