Lotus has officially introduced the Emira 420 Sport, positioning it at the absolute apex of the Emira lineup. Coming right on the heels of the brand’s “Focus 2030” strategic adjustment where they confirmed a shift to a multi-powertrain future including upcoming V8 hybrids this particular drop is a glorious love letter to pure, unadulterated internal combustion.

Engineered specifically to bridge the gap between road and circuit, the Emira 420 Sport delivers exactly what the brand’s purist community has been clamoring for: more muscle, less weight, and highly dialed-in mechanical feel.
The Powertrain: Pure ICE, No Batteries
If you were wondering whether this “420” badge hints at a high-tech hybrid setup, the answer is a definitive no. The Emira 420 Sport is a straight internal combustion engine (ICE) masterpiece.
Under the Louvred Tailgate
Sitting mid-ship is an extensively upgraded version of the tried-and-tested, Mercedes-AMG-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine.

Lotus has dialed the boost up significantly, squeezing out an explosive 420 PS (414 horsepower) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. That represents a massive 54-hp jump over the standard Emira Turbo and a 14-hp bump over the recently launched Turbo SE.
Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a lightning-fast 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The results speak for themselves:
- 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h): 3.9 seconds (half a second quicker than the standard car)
- Top Speed: 186 mph (300 km/h)
The Minds Behind the Setup
The development of the 420 Sport was marshaled under the watchful eye of Gavin Kershaw, Lotus’ legendary Director of Attributes. Kershaw’s philosophy has always been about communication over sheer numbers ensuring the chassis, steering, and driver operate in absolute harmony. To deliver on that promise, the engineering team decoupled standard road-car compromises. The car features a bespoke bonded aluminum chassis, double-wishbone suspension at all four corners, a 5mm lower ride height, and heavily revised haptics. Even the interior paddle shifters have been replaced with crisp, tactile carbon fiber units for a more mechanical engagement zone.
What We Can Expect: The Spec Sheet
When opting for the highly anticipated Lightweight Handling Pack, the 420 Sport sheds serious mass while stepping up its aero footprint.
| Attribute | Specification / Improvement |
| Weight Reduction | -25 kg (55 lbs) lighter than Emira Turbo (down to 1,421 kg) |
| Aerodynamic Downforce | +25 kg (55 lbs) of extra downforce |
| Suspension Hardware | Two-way adjustable Multimatic dampers |
| Exhaust System | Lightweight Titanium exhaust |
| Thermal Improvements | +15% airflow to outboard radiators, +14% to central radiator |
| Brake Cooling | 10% efficiency improvement |
Pure Design Functionality
The exterior revisions are subtle but highly functional. Up front, you’ll spot a more aggressive front splitter and re-contoured vents. The side sills have been extended, and the rear features a subtle lip spoiler.

But the real aesthetic highlight is the new louvred tailgate over the engine bay a gorgeous, unpretentious nod to the iconic heritage of the classic Esprit Turbo.
Additionally, Lotus has finally introduced a removable tinted glass roof panel for the first time on the Emira, and it will be available across the entire Emira range moving forward.
