Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, ever the pioneer in transcending the boundaries of contemporary craftsmanship, unveils a profound expression of its bespoke philosophy: the Phantom Arabesque. This singular creation embodies a harmonious dialogue between the rich tapestry of Middle Eastern architectural heritage and a groundbreaking, newly patented laser-engraving technique meticulously perfected at the Home of Rolls-Royce. It is an automotive ode to tradition, reimagined for the modern connoisseur.

Conceived and curated by the Private Office Dubai – one of Rolls-Royce’s exclusive commissioning hubs – this one-of-one Phantom Extended is a magnificent homage to the iconic mashrabiya latticework. This defining feature of traditional Arabian architecture, celebrated for its intricate geometric forms, privacy, and natural airflow, finds a breathtaking reinterpretation across the Phantom Arabesque. Its spirit is woven into every fibre, from the first-ever laser-engraved bonnet on a Rolls-Royce to exquisite marquetry within the Gallery, and subtly illuminated motifs throughout the motor car.
Architectural Poetry in Motion
Mashrabiya, with its elegantly carved wooden screens, has long symbolised the delicate balance between seclusion and openness, light and shade, in Middle Eastern dwellings. Michelle Lusby, Bespoke Lead Designer for the Private Office Dubai, articulates this inspiration perfectly: “For Phantom Arabesque, we were inspired not only by its beauty but also by the privacy, light and airflow it creates. Our aim was to interpret these qualities in ways that feel both culturally rooted and unmistakably Rolls-Royce.” It is a design language that resonates deeply, offering both decorative beauty and functional wisdom, now brought to life in an unparalleled automotive form.

A New Horizon in Craft: Laser Engraving, Five Years in the Making
The Phantom Arabesque marks a historic first for Rolls-Royce: a fully laser-engraved bonnet. This revolutionary, patented technique is the culmination of a five-year odyssey led by the marque’s Exterior Surface Centre. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Italian sgraffito technique – where layers are precisely removed to reveal contrasting colours – this process demands an exacting depth, clarity, and consistency.
The bonnet is meticulously painted in a darker hue, sealed with multiple clear coats, and then adorned with a lighter top layer. The mashrabiya pattern is then laser-engraved to an astonishing depth of merely 145–190 microns, unveiling the darker tone beneath. The result is a richly textured, three-dimensional surface that captivates the eye and invites a tactile connection, shifting subtly with the play of light. Each engraved area is then painstakingly hand-sanded, ensuring a sculptural finish that integrates the pattern seamlessly into the paint itself, rather than merely atop it.

Tobias Sicheneder, General Manager of the Exterior Surface Centre, remarks on this monumental achievement: “Laser engraving allows us to create a surface that is both technically precise and visually alive. Developing this patented process required years of experimentation by the entire team. Phantom Arabesque is the first expression of a technique that opens entirely new creative possibilities for future clients.”
The exterior’s sophisticated presence is further defined by a Diamond Black main body and contrasting Silver upper surfaces. A single hand-painted Short Coachline, subtly adorned with a mashrabiya motif, adds to its distinction. The illuminated Pantheon grille, set within a Dark Chrome surround, and an uplit Spirit of Ecstasy, alongside 22-inch part-polished alloy wheels, complete this commanding aesthetic.
An Interior Sanctuary of Cool Restraint
Within, the Phantom Arabesque offers a sanctuary of refined elegance. The pièce de résistance is the Gallery, spanning the front fascia, where an intricate marquetry artwork of Blackwood and Black Bolivar wood echoes the exterior’s mashrabiya design. An offset clock, in a complementary dark colourway, adds a final touch of understated luxury.

The cabin is swathed in serene Selby Grey and Black leathers, with Black seat piping and carpets. Mashrabiya motifs, subtly embroidered onto the headrests, and Starlight Doors trimmed with Selby Grey piping and Black contrast stitching, create an atmosphere of cool restraint. Illuminated treadplates, featuring a cross-section of the bonnet engraving, serve as a final, exquisite signature.
This landmark Rolls-Royce Phantom Arabesque now takes its distinguished place within the collection of its commissioning client from the Middle East, a testament to unparalleled bespoke luxury.
