MINI Sets New Benchmarks in Occupant Protection with 5-Star Safety Standards

MUNICH, May 11, 2026 Safety remains a cornerstone of MINI’s development philosophy, a commitment recently reinforced by numerous five-star Euro NCAP ratings across its current model lineup. By blending advanced technological sensors with a robust structural design, MINI provides a holistic safety concept as standard equipment, ensuring comprehensive protection for all occupants.

Intelligent Active Safety: Sensors and Assistance

The technological foundation of MINI’s active safety includes an integrated network of up to 12 ultrasonic sensors, five cameras, and five radar systems. These work in unison to identify hazardous situations early and intervene to prevent accidents.

Standard Driver Assistance features include:

  • Front Collision Warning: Includes approach warning and automatic braking, even during complex junction maneuvers.
  • Lane Departure & Change Warning: Features active steering intervention and blind-spot collision warnings.
  • Driving Assistant Package: Equipped on all derivatives, offering Exit Warning, Rear Collision Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Warning for safe reversing.
  • Pre-Crash Technologies: Automatically closes windows/sliding roofs and adjusts seat backrests to an anticipatory position when a critical situation is detected.

For enhanced autonomy, the optional Driving Assistant Plus and Professional packages (available for the Cooper family, Aceman, and Countryman) add features like Stop & Go Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Assistant, and traffic light recognition.

Advanced Passive Safety: Structural Integrity and Restraint

In the event of an unavoidable impact, MINI utilizes a rigid body structure and precisely defined crumple zones to absorb energy.

  • Adaptive Airbag System: Depending on the market, models feature up to nine adaptive airbags. In Germany, the MINI Countryman includes a central airbag to prevent front-seat occupants from colliding with each other.
  • Next-Gen Restraints: MINI uses adaptive force limiters and automatic belt tensioners. The all-electric Cooper and Aceman models feature buckle-mounted belt tensioners to specifically improve restraint in the pelvic area.
  • Pedestrian Protection: Most models include an active bonnet that raises during a collision with a pedestrian to reduce the risk of injury.

Precision Parking in Urban Environments

MINI complements its safety suite with high-performance parking systems to ensure confident maneuvering in tight spaces.

  • Standard: Parking Maneuver Assistant, Reversing Assistant, and Reversing Camera.
  • Optional Upgrades: The Parking Assistant Plus offers a 360-degree surround view, while the Professional version enables remote-controlled parking via a smartphone and the MINI App.
