The 2026 Land Rover Defender Dakar D7X-R is a purpose-built, high-performance SUV designed to tackle the world’s toughest rally-raid events, including the prestigious Dakar Rally. This extreme off-road machine is based on the production Defender OCTA, but with significant modifications to make it a true competition contender.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
The D7X-R is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing an estimated 626-650 brake horsepower. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a rally-spec 4WD system with Dakar Terrain Mode.

DESIGN AND AERODYNAMICS
The D7X-R features a radical and highly functional exterior design, optimized for high-speed stability, thermal management, and survivability in extreme rally environments. The body is crafted from a reinforced D7X monocoque, with integrated roll cage and advanced aerodynamic features.
SUSPENSION AND HANDLING
The D7X-R boasts a long-travel suspension system, inspired by desert racing trucks, with high-pressure dampers and remote reservoirs. The suspension is designed to provide exceptional articulation and impact absorption, making it capable of handling the toughest off-road terrain.

INTERIOR AND SAFETY
The interior is stripped down and rebuilt to meet FIA rally-raid regulations, featuring FIA-approved bucket seats, six-point harnesses, and a driver-configurable motorsport dashboard.
