A new star has gracefully met the water in Oss, the Netherlands. Heesen Yachts has announced the successful launch of its latest 50-metre vessel, currently known as Project Sophia. As the newest member of the shipyard’s highly regarded 50-metre steel series, this yacht combines proven engineering with a fresh and sophisticated design sensibility.

Project Sophia is the result of a collaboration between celebrated design studios. The yacht’s poised and elegant exterior was penned by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. The design is characterized by clean, sculptural lines and a near-vertical bow, giving her a distinctive presence on the water. A standout feature is the spacious open-air aft deck, which is home to a five-metre infinity pool that offers breathtaking views and a seamless connection to the sea.
The interior, envisioned by the acclaimed British studio Harrison Eidsgaard, is designed to be both luxurious and welcoming. The yacht can accommodate up to twelve guests in serene comfort. The owner’s suite is thoughtfully positioned on the main deck, while four generous guest staterooms are located on the lower deck. The main saloon promises to be a bright and airy social hub, complete with a dedicated dining area and expansive panoramic windows.

Beneath her elegant exterior, Project Sophia is built for true seafaring. She is powered by twin MTU diesel engines that will allow her to reach a top speed of 15 knots. More impressively, she boasts a transatlantic range of 3,800 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots, making her perfectly capable of ambitious ocean crossings.
With the launch complete, Project Sophia will now undergo the final stages of her interior fit-out before beginning rigorous sea trials in the North Sea. This exquisite new vessel is scheduled for delivery to her owner later this year and is currently on the market for sale.
