A New Era of Exploration: Damen Yachting Launches 75.2m Custom Hybrid Superyacht

Marking a significant milestone in sustainable luxury shipbuilding, the 75.2-metre Damen Yachting Custom Hybrid 75 has officially hit the water at the builder’s Vlissingen facility in the Netherlands.

This bespoke expedition vessel, commissioned in 2021, represents a sophisticated fusion of Dutch engineering and forward-thinking environmental consciousness. Built with a robust steel hull and a lightweight aluminum superstructure, the yacht was brought to life through the collaborative efforts of the shipyard and the renowned Michael Leach Design.

Sustainable Innovation at Sea

One of the most defining characteristics of the Custom DY 75 is its departure from traditional materials. In a move toward greater ecological responsibility, the yacht features full synthetic teak decking throughout. This alternative provides the aesthetic and tactile appeal of timber while significantly reducing the environmental footprint associated with traditional teak harvesting.

The project’s construction was meticulously managed by the Burgess New Construction Team, ensuring that every detail met the highest standards of the Damen Yachting pedigree. Rose Damen, Managing Director of the shipyard, has characterized the vessel as an “absolutely unique project,” underscoring its importance in the brand’s evolving portfolio.

Versatility and On-Board Luxury

Boasting an internal volume of approximately 1,440 GT, the superyacht is designed to accommodate 12 guests in total luxury. The layout prioritizes expansive, multifunctional deck spaces that serve dual purposes:

  • Leisure & Entertainment: The upper deck aft features an inviting outdoor lounge, complemented by a substantial on-deck swimming pool.
  • Global Exploration: The decks are engineered to house a formidable toy and tender fleet, including a 13-metre primary tender and a nine-metre utility craft.

Hybrid Propulsion and Silent Cruising

The technical heart of the Custom DY 75 is its advanced hybrid power system. Equipped with twin main engines integrated with hybrid PTI/PTO electric drives, the vessel can cruise at speeds of up to eight knots using electric propulsion alone.

More importantly, the yacht is capable of zero-emission operation. A high-capacity onboard battery bank allows for near-silent maneuvering in ports and vibration-free relaxation at anchor. For extended stays in ecologically protected or environmentally sensitive regions, the yacht’s energy storage can be supplemented by specialized containerized battery units, ensuring that luxury never comes at the cost of the environment.
