The Desert’s Digital Dawn: Why Anyma, Joost’s Dutch & Bieber Stole the Weekend

Since yesterday was Day 2 (Saturday, April 11), the reviews are already flooding in. While the main stage was the focus for the masses, the real “worth seeing” sets were found in the tents and the Outdoor Theatre, where the production value was through the roof.

Here is the breakdown of who actually delivered on Saturday.

The “Can’t-Miss” Saturday Highlights

  • David Byrne (Outdoor Theatre): If you wanted a masterclass in performance art, this was it. Byrne arrived in a vibrant orange jumpsuit with just an acoustic guitar, delivering a set that was described as “stark and beautiful.” It was the antithesis of the main stage’s chaos, pure, focused, and legendary.
  • Jack White (Mojave): A surprise addition to the lineup that lived up to the hype. He brought a raw, high-voltage rock energy that acted as a much-needed jolt to the afternoon. If you were looking for guitar heroics, he was the undisputed king of Day 2.
  • Nine Inch Noize (Sahara): For the “ragger” and electronic fans, this was a “ghoulish rave.” The visual production was dark, industrial, and high-intensity. It’s being hailed as one of the most creative uses of the Sahara’s LED rig so far this weekend.
  • PinkPantheress (Mojave): She continues to prove why she’s a Gen Z icon. Her set was breezy, high-energy, and packed with “Best Moments” according to early reviews.
  • The Strokes (Coachella Stage): Playing right before the headliner, they turned the main field into a massive indie-rock singalong. Julian Casablancas was in peak form, and the “Spectra” installation provided a perfect backdrop for their set.

The Controversy: Justin Bieber

The headlining set has divided the desert. Bieber’s “comeback” was less of a polished pop show and more of an “intimate karaoke party.” He spent a significant portion of the set behind a laptop, scrolling through YouTube and singing along to his old music videos.

  • The Verdict: If you wanted high-production choreography, you were disappointed. If you wanted a “vulnerable and chill” look into his current headspace, it was exactly what you needed.

Day 2 “Hidden Gem” Winners

  • Geese (Gobi): These guys are at the forefront of the new rock revival. No gimmicks, just top-notch songs played back-to-back.
  • Sombr (Mojave): Surprised the crowd by bringing out The Smashing Pumpkins, which sent the older millennial crowd into a frenzy.
  • Taemin: Representing the K-pop contingency with flawless choreography and high-fashion visuals that perfectly fit the 2026 aesthetic.
